It all starts with a pattern made up of 40 pieces, and 6 hides to make your jacket. Three specialized craftsmen, four to six weeks of manufacturing. Here's how it works.
Only one material.
For years.
This wall of cardboard patterns is the memory of the workshop. Each model cut, numbered, hung. The main workshop is in Paris, in the Bourse district. It only works with one material: garment leather. No leather goods, no textiles, no other orders between yours.
A craftsman who has been cutting only leather for years develops a skill that no one else can replicate. It is this specialization that produces the consistency of finish we look for in each piece.
You never make two of the same jackets at the same time.
Every order is a unique piece. That's why I'm in the workshop every day — to inspect, to monitor, to be certain that what leaves matches what we built together in the showroom.
I select each hide
by hand.
No bulk orders, no unverified deliveries. Each hide is inspected before entering the workshop: consistency of color, flexibility, natural marks of the leather. Anything that doesn't match the order isn't cut.
Raw leather
on your shoulder.
Each leather hide is inspected by hand. Color, suppleness, unique characteristics of the leather. Only those that match your order proceed to the next step.
These are the hawk-eyes with which each jacket begins. The cutter harmonizes the shades of color between all the parts and cuts the forty pattern pieces.
A single artisan monitors the assembly of your jacket from start to finish—body, sleeves, lining. A finished reference model remains visible at all times. Each seam is inspected before moving on to the next.
Another artisan takes over for the finishing touches: pressing the jacket, hand-sewn label, zippers applied one by one. A final point-by-point check before the jacket leaves the workshop.
I personally collect each piece and ship it directly—or you can pick it up at the showroom. No warehouse, no intermediary between the workshop and you.

A made-to-measure jacket doesn't require the same techniques as a belt or a cardholder. Each product has its own workshop — with artisans whose sole specialty it is.

It is in Graulhet that the workshop specializing in small leather goods is located. Awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label. Everything there is still handmade — cardholders, wallets, over 30 steps.
The belt workshop. They only make this product, with luxury finishes. Milan remains the global benchmark for this craftsmanship, and that's where Atelier Bertrand has its belts made.
The time
to do things right.
Four to six weeks is the time it takes to select the leather, cut it, hand-assemble it, and finish every detail. This is not a delivery time – it's the actual manufacturing time.
You are not ordering an in-stock item. You are commissioning the creation of a piece that does not yet exist and will be made exclusively for you.
If you are unsure about the size or model, trial jackets can be ordered before initiating final production. Ready-to-wear items (€990) are available immediately within 48 hours.
