The Ultimate Men's Leather Jacket Guide: Atelier Bertrand Excellence

Black deerskin Minimaliste leather jacket and yellow suede Trucker jacket
If you are reading this, you have probably reached the same conclusion as we have: finding the perfect men's leather jacket can feel like an obstacle course. Too expensive for what it is, too stiff, badly cut or made under murky conditions... The leather market is a jungle.

At Atelier Bertrand, we decided to rewrite the rules. Born of pure passion, our brand has become the best-kept secret among lovers of menswear. Today, we open our doors to show you how we make luxury leather accessible.
Here is everything you need to know to invest in a piece that will stay with you for life.

1. Our Philosophy: Uncompromising "Direct from the Workshop"

How the Passion Began
It all began with a frustration: exceptional leather at a reasonable price seemed impossible to find. Jérôme Bertrand, our founder, spent years hunting for pieces, analysing products and talking with a community of experts before launching the brand in 2015. The aim was clear: to offer the quality of the great luxury houses, without their extravagant margins.

A Virtuous Model
How can we offer pieces at around €990 (in stock) or €1,470 (customised), when equivalent designs sell for €4,500 elsewhere? The answer lies in a short supply chain. By cutting out the intermediaries (no resellers, no costly shops beyond the showroom), your jacket travels from the workshop straight to your wardrobe. You pay only for the product, the material and the craftsmanship.

2. Exceptional Materials: Quality at the Heart of the Product
For a leather jacket to stand the test of time and age like a great vintage, the raw material has to be impeccable. We source from exactly the same places as the most prestigious brands (Burberry, Moncler, RRL...).

Plongé Lambskin: Our Signature
The colours of our plongé lambskin
Most of our pieces are made in plongé lambskin.
• Origin: Our hides often come from the French tawery Bodin-Joyeux (awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, or Living Heritage Company, label) or are Spanish entrefino lambskins, the world benchmark.
• Technique: "Plongé" means the hide is dyed right through by immersion. "Corrected" leathers are sanded and coated with plastic to hide their flaws; our lambskin keeps its natural grain. It is breathable and supple, with an incomparably silky touch.

Our iconic leathers:

To suit every style, we also work with leathers of strong character:
• Suede Lambskin and Calf Suede: The reverse side of full-grain leather. Very supple leathers with a velvety touch, which lend themselves naturally to stronger or brighter colours.
• Deerskin: For purists, we offer deerskin (extremely strong and supple). It has the best strength-to-suppleness ratio in the world for clothing. Its grain is the hide's own, with no printed pattern, and it has a slightly oily feel. This is the leather prized by the greatest luxury houses and Japanese brands.
Smooth and silky, or grained and matt: our lambskin and deerskin comparison helps you choose according to the look you want.

3. Customisation: Create Your Own Men's Leather Jacket

This is where the Atelier Bertrand experience comes into its own. We know that every man is different. Why settle for standardised ready-to-wear?
Customisation from A to Z
We invite you to co-create your piece with us.
• Design: Would you like a shirt collar? A snap-button biker collar? Zipped or patch pockets? Everything can be adapted.
• Size: We work in suit sizes (48, 50, 52...) for the most precise fit possible. Better still, we adjust the sleeve length or the body length to your build, free of charge.
• Colours: There is iconic black, of course: the colour every wardrobe needs. You can also be bolder with mocha brown, burgundy, dark khaki or even more daring shades.
For practical pairings with your clothes, see our guide to colours beyond black. And to prepare your choices, read our guide to the customisation options.

4. Our Iconic Designs: From Biker to Minimaliste
Cafe Racer and Trucker leather jackets
Our collection is designed to be versatile, timeless and right in step with today's trend for "buying less, but better".
• The Shirt Collar Jacket: The star of the moment. With its "sixties detective" air or its Mesrine style, it works as well with a shirt and tie as with a white T-shirt. Raw elegance.
• The Cafe Racer: Efficient design at its finest. Clean and sleek, it is the essential men's leather jacket for a rock and casual look.
• The Minimaliste: A straight cut, discreet details and a secure inside pocket. The chameleon of your wardrobe.
• The Aviator / Bomber: The timeless classic, with its ribbed knit trims and supreme comfort.

5. Finishing and Construction: The Devil Is in the Details
Beautiful leather deserves construction to match. Our jackets are made in specialist workshops (in France or elsewhere in Europe) with more than 50 years of experience in leatherwork.
• Breathable Lining: We leave sweat-inducing polyester to others and use only Cotton/Viscose and Cupro/Acetate blends, for optimal temperature regulation and a smooth, comfortable glide.

• Luxury Zips: We fit our jackets with Italian Myzip zips, renowned for their smooth action and unfailing strength.
• Robust Stitching: We use thick threads to ensure the longevity of stress points (pockets, collars) and give the piece character.

Conclusion: Why Choose Atelier Bertrand?

Buying a men's leather jacket from Atelier Bertrand is a considered investment. You choose to pay for material and people, and leave marketing aside. You treat yourself to a piece that will improve with time, mould itself to your body and tell your story.
